Sorry no project

HI all,
Just a note to say HI. I started a new job recently and it is killing me. I'm not used to being on my feet all the time. It has caused some problems with my feet. So when I get home all I want to do is veg. I'm hoping to get back to creating things soon especially with Christmas coming. So keep a look out for Christmas cards and gifts I hope will be coming soon.

Take care all you wonderful people!

Happy Thanksgiving

Leigh

P.S. Thank you Anonymous for the tips about foot care. I went to the Scrubs and Beyond store and bought some much needed shoes then added arch supports. My feet are well on their way to heeling now.

A gift purse set

I got the idea for doing a purse set from all the amazing projects I saw on SCS. So here is my version of a purse gift bag. I've done it in plain Creamy Caramel so the pictures would be easier to follow in this tutorial. I sponged all the edges to give it a western flair since I just moved to Texas recently.

Recipe:
You will need 3 sheets of card stock. This project works beautifully with two sided designer paper.
Buttons
Sticky 2 sided tape - don't bother using snail tape it won't hold all the folds and curves well.
Brads
I've added a pattern that you can print off and cut out. Right click on the pattern below then save to your computer. Before you print be sure the image fills the 8 1/2" x 11" without cutting off any of the image.
The full image should show on one 8 1/2" x 11" paper.

OK... this image is not printing at the correct size. If you would like the full size image emaill me and I will send the correct size image to you.

Cut out 2 in your choice of card stock. This works really well with two sided designer paper.
Cut 2 - 8 1/2" x 2"
Score all long sides 1/2", score across at 4", then every half inch up to long score lines. Clip the 1/2" score lines up to the long score lines. In the picture above I've scored the center 1" so the sides can fold in, this is optional.
Score across purse pieces where indicated in the pattern. Fold on score lines. Here I have sponged and added "stitch" marks to the edges.
To add handles cut 2 - 8 1/2" x 1"Hold the end of 1 handle piece to the inside of purse front and punch a small hole keeping the front flap out of the way.  Add a brad to adhere the handle. Do the same with the other end of the strip as shown in picture below. Repeat for second purse piece handle. The brads will be hidden under the flap of the purse.
Tape the scored and clipped pieces as shown lining up the 4" score mark with the side edge of the bottom purse flap. Overlap the second side piece overlapping the 4" sides and lining up the 4" score mark with the other bottom purse flap.

The picture below shows how the purse sides should look after adding these pieces.
Tape the back purse piece to the front purse piece by attaching the bottom purse flap first. Tape the curved edges of the purse back piece as indicated in the picture above. Fold the purse piece up and stick the clipped sides to the purse back piece. Slide your hand into the purse and press the pieces together lining up the edge of the purse piece with the folded sides.

Cut 2 - 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" card stock or DSP
Score long edges 1/4"
Score across 1", 3" and 3 1/4"
Cut away were indicated by black marks in the picture below. Use a corner rounder punch on the 1" flap as shown.
Clip the small center tabs where the score lines cross up to the long edge score lines also indicated by black marks

Fold the 1" flap over to the outside. Fold and tape the sides together to form .a small open top box.  Repeat for second box.

Add your embelishments to the little boxes and the front of the purse.

Tape the backs of the little boxes.
Adhere the boxes side by side to the front of the purse below the purse flap.

Now you have completed the assembly of your purse.
Below you see a gift card wallet and a candy compact to match.

Thanks to you

Here's a card made for all of you who visit my blog. Especially to those that leave such wonderful comments. A lot of the time I can't find a blog address or email address to reply to your messages. I love them all, just wanted you to know.

This card is stacked 5 levels high with dimensionals so it stands over a 1/2 inch high.

Have a great week. Mine has started out well. I got a job today. Yippee! It's really hard to get back into the work force when you've been out for so long.

Announcing Vance

Introducing the newest addition to our family. Vance JC Jefferson has joined us this week. My husbands niece gave birth to a wonderful baby boy a couple of days ago. I wanted to share with you the newest joy in my sister-in-laws life. Jan is a brand new Grammy now. It's such a wonderful miracle because Erin, the new mommy, had miscarried before so having sweet Vance is a double miracle.
I started this album a couple of weeks ago and wanted to share it with all of you. I think I used just about every type of punch and cutter I have in my arsenal. I used my Cuttlebug, Nestibilities, Cricut, punches, specialty scissors and specialty blades on my cutter. You name it I probably used it. It was a lot of fun to pull out everything. Of course the mess I made was another story.  To make the diaper pin I used my Cricut to cut out a 'U' then used a large color coated paper clip and formed the shaft.
The pages are 8 1/2" X 11" and the cover is 9" x 11 3/4". For the binding I used my Bind-it-all.

I have another project coming soon. I started a new tutorial of a full size handbag with a matching compact and wallet. As soon as I get over a little illness I'm recovering from I will be posting it.
Have a great week!

Victorian Gift Bag

When I saw this on Abby's Garden I knew I would have to make one. Actually, I stopped working on the tutorial for the Desk Organizer and started it. I just could not resist. Thanks Abby for the inspiration. I wish I had some frillier ribbon to use but alas, with two drawers full of ribbon I told myself I had to use what I have. The tags on the front and fan can come off later to stamp a sentiment when I find out what special occasion it is for. I made the tags using my Cricut and the Story Book cartridge. When I made the handle I used Abby's trick for stability and used a thin wire. BUT, The paper wouldn't stay together so I got out my sewing machine and sewed the strips together. That's when I decided I need a lot more practice sewing paper together. I had trouble getting the stitches even. Oh well, I'm sure who ever receives this will be amazed that I even tried to sew.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend,

Fall Fun

This is such a quick and easy little project. It comes out so cute with or without the sponging technique.
Recipe:
1 sheet orange card stock (this is tangerine tango)
1 scrap of Old Olive card stock
1 scrap of Chocolate Chip card stock
Your choise of adhesive
If sponging - Creamy caramel
Punch 11 3" scalloped ovals then sponge the edges of one side of each oval. You can use more or less ovals depending on how thick you want your pumpkin to look. The more you use the larger the center will become.
After sponging (if you sponge) fold each oval in half with the sponging on the inside. Now stack each folded oval matching the scallops and tape the sides that meet together. When you reach your final oval tape the last oval to the first oval in your stack.
Punch 3 green leaves. Sponge edges if desired.
Cut 1 strip of old olive about 1/8" wide. Roll a couple of pieces around a Q-tip to make curlies. Add a bit of glue/tape to the least curled end and slip it between the ovals.
Using a scrap of chocolate chip card stock, roll it around the stem of a Q-tip to make a tube.
Add some glue/tape to the end of your tube then slide your Chocolate Chip stem in to the center of your pumpkin.
Put a bit of glue/tape to the ends of each leaf then slide the end of the leaf in to a slot between the pumpkin ovals.
There you go! A cute bumpy pumpkin.
The only limit to size is the size of your ovals. If you have a Cricut you can cut any size you like and make a whole pumpkin patch. There is a scalloped oval on the Cricut's Story Book cartridge on the W key. Use the blackout option.

Addition: To make the taller pumpkin follow the same directions except fold the ovals lengthwise. Add some leaves to the bottom for feet to steady it. Tape a bit on the end of each leaf then slip them in between the ovals. Slide them in until the edges are all even and parellel to the table.

Rosie Pink Desk Organizer

I made this from pre-printed file folders. It has a drawer 6 1/2" x 3" x 2" plus 2 pen holders, two cups for paper clips and such and a large pocket for stationary and note pads. The full dimensions of this project are 10 1/2" x 5" x 6" high. I like to use folders for these projects because they are thicker and stronger than card stock. If you want to make one of these be sure to use good strong sticky tape so the pieces won't come apart. Except for the drawer the whole project is a series of boxes.

This item is for sale - Only $15.00

PS. I've been asked about a template for this so I am working on it. I'll have to make another so I can get pictures and dimensions.

Layers. Layers and More Layers

I wanted to play with my Nesties today (ooo, that doesn't sound good) and my Cuttlebug.
I layered rose red, black, blush blossom and white for this card. I used the dotted swiss folder for the white and blush blossom papers. I didn't put a sentiment on the front so this card is an all occasion card. I'll add a sentiment to the inside when I send it to someone. It's a typical card so I won't go into details. Except...I started out making the card base rose red but once I was done I decided it needed a white frame. So the card is a little larger then the standard size, it's 4 1/2" x 5 3/4". At least I'll have a use for one of the large envelopes I've had sitting around.

A Spring Day

It is so HOT here in Texas that I have been day dreaming about nice cool spring days with just a tad of a flower scented sweet breeze. Ahhhhhh.

OK, OK, back to reality...

Ever since I received this set I've wanted to do a 3-D card with her swinging from a tree. This is what I came up with. The background is sponged with SU's retired cloud stencil. The sentiment is stepped up on double dimensionals. The trees are made using the inkpad technique. The leaves are a MS punch and the flowers are silk with tiny pearls as centers.

The dimensions are;
Front - 4 1/4 x 5 1/2
Sides - 1 3/4 x 5 1/2 with 1/4" fold to adhere to front of card
Back - 4 x 5 1/2 with 1/4" folds on both sides to adhere to card sides.

I laid out the sides and back together and sponged the clouds then attached the all the pieces together leaving the 1/4" fold in back open. To close the card I used a piece of velcro adhered to the side and the 1/4" fold of the back piece. The card can lay flat for shipping but will need a larger envelope.

Step It Up

Here is another one of those adorable gnomes. This was fun to create the stair step look. The full image and butterfly are set up on dimensionals. The sentiment was printed on my computer.

Demo Class Question and a favorite card

Hi Gals,

As you probably know I recently moved to Texas. I want to start giving classes here but I have no idea what the going rate is here. Does anyone know?

OK, now for the good stuff...
This is a retired set but I still love these little guys. I did this card a while ago but I don't think I ever put him on my blog. I'm pretty sure I put this card on Splitcoasters a long time ago however.
I water colored him in Creamy Caramel and Bashful Blue. I sponged the edges of the image. The white and brown layers are stepped up with dimensionals. The black strip behind the image is also stepped up with dimensionals then the blue and image set are also stepped up with dimensionals. The flowers and leaves are silk adhered with glue dots. The inside sentiment was stamped twice and key words are cut out of the blue image then stepped up with dimensionals. I then used a black Stampin' Write pen and a white paint pen to add dots to all the layers. I do this step last because the white takes a while to dry. I can't tell you how many times I've smeared the dots because I got impatient to finish a card.

Matching Card case

I've always liked this card style where the message slides back and forth and hides behind the larger embelishment. You can see a larger picture of the card here. So today I decided to create a matching case. The case is 7 3/4" x 5" (not counting the handle). The main box will hold standard size cards. The blue pocket on the front is 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 1/4". The side pockets are 3" x 1 1/2" x 1".

Circles and dots all over

Ok, I must be on a Certainly Celery binge. The color is just so bright and happy. Today's card is done with a retired set with Certainly Celery and Not Quite Navy. I used my Nesties and Cuttlebug dotted swiss folder and a bit of Not Quite Navy DSP. I water colored the images and sponged the edges with Certainly Celery.
When I use my Nesties I like to get the embossed edges as well as the cut edges, But I have a problem. When I only use the acrylic plates I don't get the embossed edge but when I use the rubber pad too it gets too thick and I'm afraid I may break my Cuttlebug. Plus the edges don't cut completely when I use the pad. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

Hi everyone, It's great to be back to crafting and sharing with all of you wonderful ladies!

It's been sooo long since I made a card! My new craft room is finally in place so of course I had to baptize it by getting right to creating. Then I found I had crafter's block. So to get over it I made a card yesterday...boy was it horrible. I tossed it straight into the round file. Today I tried again and this is what I ended up with. The colors in this picture are a little off. My old camera seems to give everything a yellow tint. The colors are actually rose red, So Saffron and Certainly Celery. But I was happy with the water coloring I did. I Think I'm getting a little better at it. Or maybe I was better at being patient this time.

My New Craft Room

HI everyone, I finally finished putting my craft room together. It's a small room, only 9 1/2 X 10 1/2 or so. I really had to get creative to fit in everything. It is wall to wall stuff but I enjoy it.

You can click on any picture to see a larger view.

The tower of plastic storage holds most of my stamps.

The hutch above was a great find. I bought it at a furniture store a few years ago for $50.00! It had fallen and was damaged. Two of the front doors were missing and the glass was broken out also the mirrored back was broken. All I had to do was remove the back and it was ready. I was going to paint it white and distress it but I decided not to for now. I've had it here in storage just waiting for a time I would finally get my craft room.

What I didn't bring with me from Idaho was here waiting for me when I got to Texas. I found a few more plastic storage units I had left here and boy did I need them. I made my work desk from two sheets of 3/4" ply wood. I covered it with left over fabric from refurbishing my antique trunk. Then placed a sheet of plexy glass on top. Holding the table top up are 9 plastic potato bins that stack. 3 each to create the legs and create more hidden storage. One stack in the back middle and two stacks in front on either side of the desk chair. I was very happy with how sturdy it turned out. I actually stood on it to hang the valance and the peg board. I then stapled the skirt around the table top to hide the storage.

This white trunk was an old antique I found up in Vermont. It was brown wood with black strapping and nothing but bare wood inside. I painted and distressed it then covered the inside with a cute rosebud print fabric. I keep fabric and my cross stitch thread and accessories in it.

More storage on the shelves hold jars of embelishments, my bind-it-all, books, cartridegs for my Cricut and other stuff.
Have a great week everybody!

Pink Rose Stationary Instructions

I've been asked for the instructions for this really quick gift set. It's so simple so get out your folder and stationary and let's have some fun.
Binder -
Front Cut 1 from file folder - 6" W x 5 3/4" H
If you have a design on your folder and you want to incorporate it like I did on this one cut your front piece with the design offset to the right using 4 3/4" for the front of your binder. 1 1/4" of the left side will be folded and used as the center binding.
With outside of paper facing you score front piece 1 1/4" from left side.
Back Cut 1 from file folder - 6" W x 5 3/4" H
With outside of paper facing you score back piece 1 1/4" from right side.
Adhere the front piece to the back piece overlapping the folded ends. Keep the flap of the front piece on the outside.
Cut 1 from file folder - 1 1/4" x 5 3/4"
Cut 1 from ribbon - 3"
Adhere the ribbon to the inside of the binder at the top of the center binding leaving a 3/4" loop of ribbon sticking up (about 1 1/2" of ribbon showing). Then adhere the folder piece over the ribbon and down the center binding inside.
Pockets -
Cut 1 from card stock - 4 1/2" W x 6 1/2" H
Score both long sides at 1/2"
Score short width at 3" and 3 1/2"
Clip the center tabs where the score lines cross.
Fold the score lines and adhere the 1/2" sides together keeping the little tabs inside to form a pocket.
Cut 1 from card stock - 5" W x 6 1/2" H
Score both long sides at 1/2"
Score short width at 3" and 3 1/2"
Clip the center tabs where the score lines cross.
Fold the score lines and adhere the 1/2" sides together keeping the little tabs inside to form a pocket.
Decorate the front of each pocket.
Adhere the smaller pocket to the inside left of the binder 3/8" in from left side and 3/8" up from bottom.
Adhere the larger pocket to the inside right of the binder 3/8" in from the right side and 3/8" up from bottom.
Clip a pen in the ribbon loop to hang down the center.
If you do not have matching stationary you can make some. Cover a note pad 3" W x 5" H x 1/4" deep with card stock with a flap coming over the top and down the front 3/4". With the bottom flap coming up from the bottom of pad to cover the pad and slip under the 3/4" flap 1/4".
The pad I used is 3" W x 5" H x 1/4" deep so the cover measures 3" W x 10 3/4" H. Score along the width at 4 1/2", 4 3/4", 9 3/4" and 10"
Make some note cards that fit in envelopes 3 3/4" x 5"
This is a great set to make as a camp project especially if you have your gals make matching cards. Or, pre-make a set to give as a Hostess gift or door prize at your parties.

Thank you Leslie

I received this award from Leslie a few days ago. And WOW, it's soooo nice. Thank you Leslie. Visit her blog a Panda Scrapper.
Sorry I don't have time right now to find 15 new blogs to pass this award to. Things are pretty busy here since Mom is in panic mode about me leaving and a change in Dad's meds has caused some major dementia problems.
I'm going to do this a little differently. The first 15 to respond to this post please feel free to accept this award. I will post the winners in a future post. I know this is cheating but I don't have time to select 15 new blogs from so many amazing and talented artists.
The rules for this one are:
1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.
2) Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.
